Ingredients

  • 1 pack Shroomeats Mushroom Shred-It

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • ½ medium yellow onion, finely chopped

  • ½ red, green, yellow bell peppers, finely chopped (optional)

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • ¾ cup tomato sauce

  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste

  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (or coconut aminos)

  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or brown sugar

  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard

  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Toasted buns for serving

  • Optional toppings: pickles, coleslaw, vegan cheese, jalapeños

Instructions

  1. Sauté the veggies:
    Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and bell pepper. Sauté until soft, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute more.

  2. Add Shroomeats:
    Add Shred-it to the skillet and stir to combine with the vegetables. Cook for about 2–3 minutes to warm through and get lightly browned.

  3. Make it saucy:
    Stir in tomato sauce, tomato paste, soy sauce, maple syrup, mustard, and paprika. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until thickened and flavorful. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  4. Serve:
    Spoon the saucy mixture onto toasted buns. Add your favorite toppings and enjoy!
