Loco Moco with Shroomeats Mushroom Patties

Loco Moco with Shroomeats Mushroom Patties

A staple Hawaiian dish that's hearty and filling, traditionally using a hamburger patty, Loco Moco. We made this dish with our Mushroom Patties, and oh boy, was it yummy!

Serving size: 2

Time: 25-35 minutes

Ingredients:

1 box Shroomeats Mushroom Patties (contains 2 patties)

1 tbsp olive oil

½ tbsp preferred butter

2 tbsp soy sauce

1 cup rice

1 cup water

For the gravy:

½ cup sliced onions

1 cup sliced white button mushrooms

2 tbsp preferred butter

¾ tbsp brown sugar

½ tbsp Vegemite (or Marmite)

1 ½ cup vegetable broth

½ cup flour mixture (we used potato flour)

½ cup water

Salt & pepper

For the garnishes:

2 fried egg (one for each plate)

1 bunch of chopped green onions

2-3 tbsp of white sesame seeds

Optional: Chili crunch oil

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the rice per the package instructions, when finished keep warm and set aside.
  2. In a saucepan on medium heat, add olive oil and butter. Once the oil is hot and the butter is melted, add Shroomeats Mushroom Patties to sear for 2-3 minutes.
  3. Flip the Mushroom Patties to sear for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown, add soy sauce and let simmer.
  4. Remove the Mushroom Patties from the pan and set aside. Prepare to make the gravy.

To make the gravy:

  1. Using the same pan on medium heat, add butter and melt to saute the onions and mushrooms. Cook until soft.
  2. Add Vegemite, brown sugar, and vegetable broth, and mix together well.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the flour and water until there are no clumps.
  4. Once the seasoning is coated on the mushrooms and onions, add the flour-water mixture, and stir well. Reduce the heat to low and cover for 5-7 minutes.

For the garnishes:

  1. Fry the egg to be sunny-side up, once completed, gently set it aside to not break the yolk.
  2. Chop the green onions and set aside along with the sesame seeds.

Serving:

  1. Plate one scoop of the rice, add one Mushroom Patty, and drizzle gravy atop.
  2. Gently add the fried egg on top and sprinkle sesame seeds, green onions, and chili crunch oil. Repeat for the second plate.
  3. Dig in and enjoy this hearty dish!
